May 13 2015 Discussion

Please think about the questions below. Be prepared to discuss this in class.
You can look at the opinions at the bottom of this page for some ideas for vocabulary and opinions.
You do not need to read the article that these opinions are connected to. We are simply discussing your opinion in general.

Should people who have drug and/or alcohol problems have their children taken away from them by the government?

If yes, how long should they be taken away for?
If no, what should be do to protect the children?

Is workaholism as bad a alcoholism or drug use?
Which is worse, kids with uncaring parents, or kids with no parents?

See you in class!
Matthew

t shouldn't just apply to drug addicts but, to alcoholics as well. There should be zero tolerance in both cases and we should be hair strand testing for years to make sure they are clean. The only 'baby' these people have is their addiction, they are absolutely incapable of putting a child first.

My personal opinion is that : Taking drugs does not make you a bad person, some people are predetermined to act in such a way with or without substance abuse being a factor. sometimes good people, including good parents, make bad decisions which impact their life negatively, what this particular woman did was inexcusable and evil, she obviously had more issues than just a 'drug' problem. I personally think that people who are excessive drinkers are far less capable of basic duties than someone on drugs. Im not condoning drugs around children or saying all addicts are good parents, Each individual person is different. Whos to say alchoholics or people who are depressed or have mental health issues should have their children taken away where would it end? people who are fat? or thin? or tall? etc.. you get where i am going....
